"Tell him SurveyGold saved my son's life."

These were the words of a PhD psychologist whom I met via a telephone call for the first time in May of 2010. The doctor was conveying to me the sentiments of the parents of one of his patients, an autistic teenaged young man.

Helping People with Behavior Challanges

Autism is a developmental disorder that appears in the first three years of life, and affects the brain's normal development of social and communication skills. As such, it presents a social challenge for the person with the disorder and those around them. In the case of this particular student, he was labeled a freak and a threat by fellow students and school staff. Consequently, he was kicked out of school. He had no life as a result. You can read between the lines. Things got pretty desperate for him and his family.

When the family engaged this doctor's services, a formal behavior intervention plan was formulated so the young man could return to school and re-integrate. The behavior intervention plan required daily behavior monitoring and was modified over time as various behavior goals were achieved. The SurveyGold application was the key component to enable that monitoring. As a result, the young man successfully completed school and got his life back. His parents were so grateful that our doctor friend advocated for their son and not only ended his desperate situation but helped him successfully complete school academically and socially.

The doctor and I were speaking by phone for the first time ever. Prior to our call, he had just finished a session with the young man's parents. This Context Hits Close to Home for Me and My Family

I was stunned...humbled...and ever so grateful to hear those remarks. I never, ever envisioned that SurveyGold would be used in a context that would be life-saving. It was a truly amazing moment for me. For more reasons than one...

You see, my wife and I have three fantastic children. Two of them have Tourette's Syndrome, an inherited neuropsychiatric disorder characterized by involuntary vocal and physical behaviors known as "tics". As such, we are intimately familiar with the plight of the children and parents served by our new doctor friend.

As it turns out, the behavior management process developed by this psychologist using SurveyGold was utilized with a multitude of individuals over several years. Furthermore, the doctor is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and his research findings were presented at the 119th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association in Washington, DC in August, 2011. My wife and I were honored to be present at the event in our nation's capitol.
