New Features for Survey Authors

The latest release of SurveyGold is now available. This video shows some of the new features available to survey authors in the Setup Survey tab.

A complete listing of new features, enhancements and fixes contained in this release is available in the Software Update Log. Here are a couple of the new features that improve survey author productivity by providing helpful information at a glance.

The question list now displays a curved green arrow indicating a skipping question.

Mouse over a question to display a preview of the question response choices and any skip-to settings.

How To Acquire the Update

The ability to acquire SurveyGold application updates is available to any user.

To acquire the most recent SurveyGold application update:

Select About in the SurveyGold application tool bar.
Perform the Update SurveyGold action.

A software update dialog appears and the process begins by downloading the software directly from the SurveyGold software update server. After the software update files are downloaded to your computer, the process automatically installs the software updates. Normally, this entire process only takes a moment. Your data is not affected in any way as a result of software updates.

Need to share your responses with other SurveyGold users in real-time? Introducing two new Community features that make it easier than ever for you to share your survey responses with other SurveyGold application users in real-time.

This feature has been years in the making. We are delighted to make it available to you. It is available to all SurveyGold application users with an Ultimate subscription.

Key Features

Survey response sharing is easy to setup via the Community tab and enables these features:

Any or all of your surveys can be shared with other SurveyGold application users in real-time.
Pick and choose which surveys are shared by specific shared responses subscribers.
Any responses that you collect via the web or that are manually entered into your SurveyGold application are immediately available to subscribers via their SurveyGold application.
Any surveys or responses you edit or delete are also immediately available to shared responses subscribers.

Hundreds of Millions of Responses Processed: But Who's Counting?

Recently, I was thinking that it would be an interesting exercise to tally the number of online survey responses and field survey responses that have been processed via the SurveyGold online service since we started in 1999.

We have an application that tallies (in real-time) the number of responses that SurveyGold has processed to date. The number is impressive and is displayed below as well as on the SurveyGold Online Services Status page.

Backup and Restore Your Database Via SurveyGold Online Backup

How To Backup Your Database Using SurveyGold Online Backup

The SurveyGold application provides the ability to easily, securely and reliably backup your SurveyGold database to our online backup service. You can also easily restore your SurveyGold database using any database file you have backed up on SurveyGold backup service or any other folder location accessible by your computer. This feature is available to all users

How to Restore Your Database from SurveyGold Online Backup

As you exit the application, when the backup prompt appears, select the first option to backup your database file to SurveyGold. Select OK to create a complete backup of your SurveyGold database file as of that point in time.

When the backup of your is made to the SurveyGold online backup service, a new backup file is created. The process does not overwrite any previous backups made. This provides you with the ability to restore from backups made at different points in time, as your situation may require.

Choose Help from the tool bar in your SurveyGold application.

Next, choose Change SurveyGold Preferences.

In the Features tab, choose Restore Backup.

Choose SurveyGold Online Backup and then select Next.

Select a file to restore from the list of your available backups on the SurveyGold online backup service. Then select Next to restore your database file using the selected file. Just prior to restoring the file, SurveyGold makes a temporary backup copy of your current database file so that you can revert to the current database in the event that the backup does not the data you were expecting.

After a moment, your database is restored. Then, your SurveyGold application restarts and displays the restored data.

How To Accept or Undo a Restored Database

Restoring data can sometimes be a trial-and-error process of going back in time to look for a needle in a haystack. So, after you restore a backup database file, your SurveyGold application restarts in a special "database restore pending" mode and displays the restored data as you would normally expect. You then have the opportunity to accept or undo the database you just restored.

While your application is operating in this special mode you can use any of the features in View Results or Analyze Results tabs. This is done so that you have the opportunity to peruse the data to determine if this is the appropriate data that you wanted to restored. However, you cannot use features in the any of the other tabs until such time that you perform one of the following actions via the SurveyGold application toolbar:

Accept - Ends the pending status and allows you to proceed with using the application normally.

Undo - Ends the pending status and reverts to the previous database file that existed just prior to restoring the database. The application restarts and uses the previous database file.

You Can Trust Us With Your Data

The only motivation that we have in providing you with an online database backup solution is to make recovering your data as easy as possible in the event that you need to do so. Period.

One of the most common support scenarios we regularly encounter is when user needs to move an existing SurveyGold application from one computer to another. This can happen because of a computer or operating system upgrade or a change in responsibilities at work. In this scenario, having a backup copy of a database file is critically important in ensuring that you have uninterrupted service without data loss. Based upon this routinely occurring scenario, we are making it easy and convenient to backup and restore your data via the SurveyGold backup service.

Your SurveyGold backup file is fully encrypted so that the content of the file is unreadable when it comes to rest on the SurveyGold online backup service. We cannot and do not do anything with your backup database files on our servers other than make them available to you in the event that you need to restore a database. You have our word on that.
